GWM Export is an independent exporter, not affiliated with Great Wall Motor. We ship used GWM vehicles from China to Africa. This FAQ covers the Great Wall Cannon (Poer) pickup: real FOB prices, mileage, shipping, duty, and export documents.
What is the GWM Cannon, and why does it suit African markets?
The GWM Cannon — also called the Poer — is Great Wall Motor's mid-size pickup, built for work and rough roads. It comes in double-cab and single-cab body styles with 2.0T diesel or petrol engines, part-time 4WD on many trims, and a 1-tonne payload class. For African importers, the appeal is parts availability through GWM's regional networks, a simple ladder-frame layout that local workshops understand, and left-hand drive (LHD) — which registers in most African markets. We stock used Cannon units from the China domestic market with real mileage and registration dates. Reference FOB prices for used Cannon pickups typically range from around USD 9,000 to USD 18,000 depending on year, mileage, and drivetrain.
What used GWM Cannon listings are available right now?
We hold used Cannon stock at our yards in Tianjin and Guangzhou. Typical listings include a 2019 Cannon with 68,000–91,000 km, a 2020 Cannon with 29,000–36,000 km, and a 2021 Cannon with 30,000–60,000 km. Each listing shows a reference FOB price, real odometer reading, registration date, and photos. For example, a 2020 Great Wall Cannon with 29,000 km (ref SC413927105SF) is a low-mileage unit often sought by African buyers. Prices are FOB China port — they exclude freight, insurance, and destination duty. Always confirm current stock on WhatsApp because units sell quickly.
How do I verify mileage and condition before buying?
Every listing includes the odometer reading and registration date from the China domestic market. We also provide multiple photos per unit. You can cross-check the mileage against the registration date: unusually low km for the year may indicate a replaced odometer, so ask for the service record if available. Before you commit, request a short video walkaround on WhatsApp showing the dashboard, engine bay, and undercarriage. We do not hide accident history where known. If a unit has been repaired, we say so.
What export documents will I receive with a GWM Cannon?
Every exported Cannon travels with: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading (B/L), certificate of origin (COO), and the China Customs export declaration. Depending on your destination, you may also need a fumigation certificate and an inspection certificate from a third-party agency. Your customs broker in Africa will ask for the B/L and invoice first. The COO helps prove Chinese origin if your country applies preferential tariffs. We courier the original documents after vessel departure.
How is a used pickup taxed in African markets?
Duty on used pickups varies widely. Some African countries classify pickups as commercial vehicles with lower import duty than passenger cars; others apply excise based on engine size and age. Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa each have different rules — Kenya uses a customs value based on CRSP, Nigeria applies a combination of duty and levy, and South Africa has an import permit system for used vehicles. Always confirm with your destination customs authority. We provide the FOB invoice and B/L you need for clearance, but we do not calculate destination duty.
How do I ship a GWM Cannon from China to Africa?
Two main methods: RoRo (roll-on/roll-off) and container. RoRo is cheaper for running vehicles and is common on Africa routes from Tianjin and Guangzhou. Container shipping protects the vehicle from salt spray and allows you to fill the container with parts, but costs more. Transit time from China to West Africa is typically 30–45 days; to East Africa, 20–35 days. We handle booking, loading, and document submission to China Customs.
What is the landed cost breakdown for a used Cannon?
Landed cost = FOB price + international freight + insurance + destination duty/VAT + port charges + inland transport. For example, a 2020 Cannon at USD 12,000 FOB, shipping to Mombasa at USD 1,800 RoRo, insurance at 0.5% of FOB (USD 60), and Kenyan duty (25% duty + 20% VAT on CIF) would add roughly USD 3,465, plus port and clearing fees. Your total could be around USD 17,500–18,500 depending on exchange rates. Use this formula with your own numbers.
Can I register a left-hand-drive GWM Cannon in my country?
All our Cannon units are left-hand drive (LHD). Most African countries — including Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, and Ethiopia — register LHD vehicles. Some countries, such as South Africa and Tanzania, require right-hand drive for local registration, so a LHD Cannon cannot be registered there. Check your national transport authority before importing. If your market requires RHD, we can advise on alternative models.
How do I pay, and what are the risks?
We accept T/T bank transfer in USD to our company account in China. Typical terms are 30% deposit to reserve the unit, 70% before shipment. We do not accept cryptocurrency or personal transfers to individuals. For first-time buyers, we recommend a small deposit and inspection before the balance. Funds are held in a corporate account, and you receive a signed proforma invoice.
What support does GWM Export provide after shipment?
We provide the B/L, invoice, and COO by courier. We also share loading photos and container numbers. We do not offer after-sales warranty on used vehicles, but we can help you find local GWM parts suppliers. For African importers, we can connect you with clearing agents in Lagos, Mombasa, and Durban. We are an independent exporter, not affiliated with GWM; we source from the China domestic market and sell as-is.
Which African countries do you ship to most often?
Our most frequent African destinations are Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa, though we also ship to Ghana, Tanzania, and Ethiopia. We ship from Tianjin and Guangzhou. For landlocked countries like Zambia and Zimbabwe, we can arrange transit through Durban or Beira. Tell us your port and we will quote freight.
